Frequently Asked Questions

Pucks Explained

What’s a puck?

A puck is one handy little portion of our meals, shaped like a hockey puck and sized for real life.

Each puck is about 100 g and frozen into a stackable shape that's easy to store, heat, and serve.

Heat one, two, or more—whatever you need today.

No wasted food. No sad leftovers. Just real food, portioned for real life.

Ready in under two minutes from frozen.

Are your pucks just for kids?

Not at all.

Batch Kitchen started with our toddler, but we quickly realised our pucks worked for lots of people.

They're perfect for lighter appetites, quick lunches, busy weeknights, or anyone who wants the flexibility to heat only what they need.

One puck for a snack or lighter meal.

Two or more for a bigger appetite.

Add your favourite sides or enjoy them on their own.

It's real food, portioned for real life.

Are they safe for toddlers or kids?

Yes. Our meals are made with real ingredients and can be served to children as part of a balanced diet.

As with any prepared food, always check the temperature before serving and adjust the texture or portion to suit your child's age and stage.

They're not intended for infants under 12 months.

Every child is different—you know what works best for yours.

Will you be adding more meals or different portion sizes?

Absolutely.

We're starting small so we can focus on making every meal the best it can be.

As we grow, we'd love to introduce new recipes.

Storage & Cooking

How should I store and cook a puck?

All pucks are made to be cooked straight from frozen for the best results. Heating instructions can be found each label. Just make sure the meal hits an internal temp of 165°F (74°C) for 2 minutes. Always test the centre of the meal for doneness.

For children or sensitive eaters:
Let the meal cool to a safe serving temperature before offering, and check for appropriate texture and size based on the child’s age.

Can I use an air fryer?

We haven’t tested it yet but let us know how it goes!

How long do pucks last in the freezer?

We recommend enjoying your pucks within 3 months for the best taste, texture, and nutrition — that’s our sweet spot.

But here’s the freezer truth:
Frozen food lasts indefinitely.
As long as your pucks stay frozen and haven’t thawed, they’ll remain safe to eat well beyond 3 months, even a year or more later. The flavour and texture might shift slightly over time, but the food will still be safe.

So don't worry if one gets forgotten at the back of the freezer. It'll be there when you need it.

Why are your meals frozen instead of fresh?

Freezing lets us cook in small batches without relying on preservatives.

We freeze meals shortly after cooking to lock in flavour and freshness, so they're ready whenever you need them.

It's the easiest way to keep real food on hand without worrying about it spoiling in the fridge.

My pucks arrived a little soft—are they still safe?

Yes! If they’re still partially frozen, pop them back in the freezer. If fully defrosted, store in the fridge and eat within 48 hours. Do not refreeze.

Our Kitchen

Who cooks the meals?

Adrian does.

He's a trained chef with more than 10 years' experience and the co-founder of Batch Kitchen.

Every meal is cooked from scratch in a Fraser Health-certified kitchen.

If we wouldn't proudly serve it at our own table, it doesn't make it into you

Where do you cook the pucks?

We prepare every meal at Rotisserie Kitchen, a Fraser Health-certified commercial kitchen in Delta.

It gives us the space to cook safely, consistently, and in small batches while keeping the homemade quality we're known for.

Nutrition & Ingredients

Do you use preservatives?

Never. The freezer is our preservative. We use ingredients you'd find in your own kitchen—nothing weird.

Do you make allergen-free or gluten/dairy-free meals?

Not yet. We’re focused on making our core classics great first. Free-from options are on our radar for the future.

Please note our pucks are prepared in a commercial kitchen that handles nuts, dairy, gluten, soy, eggs, and other common allergens. While strict procedures are followed to minimize cross-contact, the puck may contain trace amounts of allergens.
